What Is Indi-publishing?

I talked about self-publishing, but what about independent publishing? (also known as indi-publishing)

Indi-publishing has characteristics of both self-publishing and traditional publishing, but in my opinion it’s the worst of both worlds.

It has the aspect of self-publishing where you find your own team of editors, artists, ect… And you’re paying for it all, doing all that work.

It also has the process of finding a publishing house, normally smaller than a traditional company. You are paid a portion up front, and sign contracts for the house’s royalties and creative rights, and the publishing house will market your book.

You end up having to pay for your own team of professionals to get your book ready, on top of finding a publishing house, and signing off a portion of your creative rights.

I don’t recommend this way of publishing, but it may work for certain authors. Say if the author wanted to have a specific editor and artist, but does not have the time to market his book.
